This role is critical for managing the risk and growth of the lending portfolio by defining the core parameters of creditworthiness. It involves designing and implementing the specific rules and criteria—known as underwriting policies—that determine which applicants are approved for credit ("the who") and the maximum amount they can borrow or be extended ("how much"). These rules govern the entire process of entry into the lending portfolio, ensuring that new accounts align with the company's risk appetite and financial objectives.

What you'll Do:

• Risk Budget Optimization: Responsible for optimizing the usage of the risk budget to drive business growth, rather than simply focusing on risk minimization
• Decision Logic Ownership: Directly owns and manages the logic for approval rules, credit cut-offs, limit assignments, and pricing structures
• Funnel & Mix Monitoring: Continuously monitors the "through-the-door" applicant mix to ensure the incoming applications and bookings meet pre-defined standards and detect any drifts
• Policy Collaboration: Partners with the Business/Commercial team to co-own product policies that balance growth with healthy risk-adjusted margins

What you'll Need:

• 5-7 years of experience in Underwriting & Policy Management, preferably in the unsecured lending business
• Strong background in credit policy development and risk appetite frameworks
• Expertise in setting credit limits and pricing strategies based on risk-based tiers
• Ability to translate high-level risk budgets into granular automated decision rules
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and concisely
